Its over, I'm done

The good times have gone

I cant do this anymore

The darkness, the pain, the despair

Surrender!

The relief

I sigh, I smile

There's hope

There's a future

Rejoice!

It's time to repair the damage I've done

To say sorry and not do it again

I'll accept my past, admit my part

This work never ends

Rebuild!

Jess's poem combined the themes of addiction and warfare and was composed for Remembrance day. I love the way it emulates the meter and form of WW1 poetry while retaining themes of addiction, after all the battle against this disease is indeed a great war.
