Short works on the theme of addiction

One of my other interests is poetry and short works written by addicts, either in the grip of addiction or on their journeys of recovery. As a recovering addict myself my heart goes out to those suffering from this progressive neurological disease. I want to share the stories of those who have been ignored, isolated and abused. I want to use this platform to give voices to the voiceless.
The first one is one of my own. A short dialogue that was composed as part of a group project whilst doing doing an inpatient rehab program at Oasis Runcorn.
The project theme was "Just for Today" and we used mindfulness and Buddhist imagery to inspire our work.
For context Mara is the demon queen of desire, the serpent demon who tempted the Bhudda when he sought enlightenment under the bodhi tree.

With thanks to Emma Jane for her amazing calligraphy, it really helps the work come to life.
You can find the website of Oasis Runcorn here, please take a look at some of the amazing work that they do to support those in the grip of addiction.
