I am excited to announce a new collaboration with Moon Music (appropriate as I am using the working title of the Three Moon Mythos for my world). You can find some of her work here and here.
Music has always been very important to me and in writing its often an amazing hack for generating emotion and developing characters. I have several characters that sing or chant at various points in the story. In addition many of my cyber characters connect to Bluetooth speakers or play music in their heads, which appears as lines of code in the text and gives the reader the chance to put those songs on and experience diegetic music in a written medium. For example here is some of CJ's code:
Bluetooth device detected Connecting…Connected Speaker volume set 75%Playing(Galvanise|Chemical.Brothers)Equalizer.settings(Boost <- 60)In particular Dr Ling Xi has a number of musical moments and as a native Mandarin speaker, her singing should really be in that language. This is where Moon Music comes in as she will not only produce the songs but also work to produce authentic Mandarin translations of the music in the stories and novels.
If this goes well I will release a few of the tracks on YouTube and provide the links within the digital versions of the stories and the novel, so the reader can listen to her laments.
Many of the musical inspirations within my work are from existing fallen civilizations; Sumerian hymns, Mayan dirges and poetry from the fall of the Han Dynasty. These ancient, haunting and melancholy songs align with sad and mysterious feelings, the discordant whispers, arising from the outer spheres.
